what would it mean for u to love me?

would u send me a text every morning

and give a kiss every night?

would a date in a field be our first

‘i love u’

or maybe an evening walk on the beach?

does loving u mean i feel better about myself?

would u pick me up when i fall

hold back my hair when i throw up

uphold the truths u once said?

~

do u remember the things u said to me?

we’ll know each other forever.

i’m glad i got to know u.

it wasn’t the same without u.

do u think about them as much as i do?

or is it my girlish fantasy that exists only in my mind

and in my memory.

if u dont remember it, what did it truly mean?

~

what would it mean for u to love me?

would that ever be possible?

i don’t want to exist if u love other girls

i just want to be loved by u.

Good day Willow. “If u don’t remember it, what did it truly mean?” Great question with a possible haunting answer (if one is ever given.) I don’t know how most guys feel about remembering the things they said to a girl but I certainly do. I have dealt with a lot of that in the romantic poems on my blog. I know what people mean by the term “hopeless romantic” but I have never been much of a fan of this phrase. I think we use this phrase in positive and negative terms: 1) positive because no matter what happens we believe in the power, charm, and good things about romance (either one we have known or a potential one) and never want to give up; 2) negative because sometimes we have to give up on the romance we had or spent so much time, effort, prayer, etc, hoping for- never to see it happen. Maybe the questions become, “Can we still hope and love despite a hopeless romance?” I explored this in a recent poem, “Mesmerize.” (I am not trying to promote my site, only let you know I have dealt with these issues as well and explored them a lot. God bless you.

By the way. My discussion of the term “hopeless romantic” was in no way meant to be an attack on your poem or its title. I meant no disrespect.

Hey Christopher! Thanks for sharing your thoughts—the term certainly is an oxymoron in a way. And I took no offense, you made total sense in your discussion and comment. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy reading those comments!
