Y’all, we are back! Back to a normal schedule—Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Thanks for bearing with me during November and I actually want to hear from you: did we prefer the twice a week schedule or do we want the 3-4 times a week schedule back? I’m trying to figure out how to balance this, so let me know please!
Okay, I’ve talked a lot about my move from Washington to North Carolina.
BUT last night I had this mind-blowing, phenomenal, fantastic, brilliant thought come to mind.
I was doing the normal routine of wondering why I moved from Washington and I said, “My life was so perfect there.”
BOOM.
Yes, my life was seemingly perfect: I had lots of friends, my faith was in a great spot, as much as I loved the east coast I didn’t actually need it, blah blah blah, life was good.
But that’s exactly what it was. I was so comfortable. My faith wasn’t challenged, I wasn’t challenged by others about my faith because I was constantly surrounded by Christians, and I was getting too comfy in the whole ‘life is perfect’ mindset.
Now there’s nothing wrong with life being good. We all have those months where life is going great, right?
But I was so comfortable that when something new struck me, I would have been shooketh.
Now obviously there were more reasons to why we moved (such as my parents knowing NC would be where we’d retire, even fifteen years before we retired), but there was a reason God let me get comfortable and then brought me to a place where I am uncomfortable.
You see, our lives are not supposed to be perfect. They are not supposed to be gloriously comfortable. We are supposed to be challenged and even threatened by the things of this world.
Why? Because we are not of this world. (John 17:14)
The devil is going to use his tools—literally anything here on earth—to make us stumble and fall into his trap.
But the truth about life is that we’re going to have struggles. The same goes for the of a Christian.
It’s funny because as I was writing this, a friend texted me this quote: “Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace within difficulties.”
(This quote is often attributed to C.S. Lewis)
God doesn’t grant us a perfect life but rather a perfect peace. In fact, one of the titles for Jesus was Prince of Peace. If we have Jesus, we have the chance to experience true peace.
In John 16, Jesus tells his disciples: “…[In] me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)
Now as Christians, we are given a mission to share the love of Christ, right? But sometimes challenges get the best of us and…we get scared.
But challenges shouldn’t make us forget our mission.
We can’t forget that Jesus had challenges too, right?
So what I’m getting at is this: sometimes God is going to shake up your life because you’re getting too cozy in the comfort and the ‘normal.’ Maybe He’s telling you to go do something uncomfortable—talk about your faith in public. Take off your secular mask and wear your faith proudly.
Thanks for reading, have a great day!
