Have you ever felt like something you did was a failure? Maybe a relationship totally crashed and burned. Maybe your job didn’t work out. Maybe your writing project—despite putting years of effort into it—wasn’t accepted by your dream publisher. Maybe you didn’t make the sports team.

Failure, obviously, is a really hard thing to go through. It hurts and most of the time, it’s unexpected, right?

But let’s think about it: if you learned something, then it wasn’t really a failure.

Sure, what you had been trying to achieve and didn’t achieve, that might count as a fail, but the overall experience? Nah, that’s not true.

Let’s use the writer example. You plot, draft, edit, and complete a novel over the past couple of years. You do all the fancy stuff to try and get it accepted by the publishing company, and after all that hard work, they tell you it’s not a good fit.

They tell you why it’s not a good fit and it was something along the lines of ‘the characters are too dry and the descriptions do nothing to enhance the story.’

You feel like a total idiot, right? (At least I would—I really take other peoples’ words to heart.) And because you didn’t get accepted, it feels like a failure.

But you learned something—you need to touch up on your writing and your descriptions, right? And that’s something you’ll be able to use for all your future writing projects and your current project. So it wasn’t all a total failure, right?

So that’s what’s up. If you learned something, whatever you did wasn’t a complete failure. Sometimes it just appears to be a failure and that’s what the devil tries to tell us so that we can fall into his trap.

But let me knock this in to your mindskulls: you aren’t a failure!!

Alrighty that’s all for today! Thanks for reading and go learn stuff!
