Have you ever been blessed and then ended up feeling cursed? Let me explain: it feels like God gives us blessings and…they end up being curses. Now, obviously he isn’t giving us curses or cursing us, so I’m going to let you read this quote from Winnie-the-Pooh and then I’ll get into what I mean.

β€œHow lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” ~Winnie-the-Pooh

Nowβ€”connecting that quote to my first paragraph. Friendships, they’re great, right? Friends, pastors, family, small groups, little kids, coworkers, friends are great.

And they are a blessing to have. A blessing given to us by God.

But then these relationships, there might come a day when you have to say…goodbye. And that’s when the relationship might start to feel like a curse. The blessing might start to feel like a curse.

And you think to yourself, β€œWhy the heck did God give me this burden?! Why give me something so good when he knew I’d have to say goodbye to it? What was the whole point if it ends after goodbye?”

Friend, have you ever thought: how lucky you are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard?

I know, it might sound cheesy or dumb or maybe even like brainwash. But it’s true: God could have given us stuff we wish we could say goodbye to. And he mightβ€”some relationships need to end, but the good ones don’t.

Whether you are saying goodbye for now or saying goodbye until heaven, remember: you are so luckyβ€”or rather, so blessedβ€”to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

This has really changed my perspective in the past few months. My thoughts have been filled with, β€œWhy did God put me in this church that I’ve made a home when I’m just going to leave? Why did he help me cultivate these friendships? Why did I choose to get baptized here when I might never come back? Why why why why why?”

But then I thought about it: would I be in the same place that I am today without this church, this community, small group, pastor, and friends? Heck no. In all honesty, I probably wouldn’t have gotten baptized for a long time if it wasn’t for my small group leaders, pastor, and best friend that helped me along the way and took that step with me.

Your relationships, whether you say goodbye or not, are going to shape your life. And so I am really glad that I have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. Because I don’t know where I would be without them.

β€œDear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
‭‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Thanks for reading and have a great day.πŸ’›

I believe that, in general, people do a very poor job at maintaining a healthy or balanced perspective (and who can blame us when life can be painful at times). This is an excellent perspective, Willow, and very well put. All the best to you in your travels and to your next chapter!

I agree, Scott, it’s definitely something that (at least for me) takes a while to understand. Thank you very much, sir! God bless you all at the HH.

I’m glad you thought so! It’s funny because typically when I write a post, I write after the fact that something has happened but I spontaneously decided to write this last night at 12:00 AM when I was bawling my eyes outπŸ˜… And it’s funny because this post actually really helped ME tooβ€”not something I’ve experienced much when it comes to my blog postsπŸ˜‚ I’m really glad you found it helpful and enjoyed it, that makes me happyπŸ™ƒπŸ«ΆπŸ»

Haha, same! I usually write about things I do, or have done (or maybe even witnessed), but sometimes thoughts just pop up randomly and make you think, “Hey, that makes a lot of sense! I should write/tell people about it!”, or somethin’ like that LOL

        Yep, I did :D

I lost a BFF (she’s still alive) when I was around 9/10 years old and I was a mess. I was heartbroken. But ya know, looking back… losing that friendship was a good thing, even though it was extremely hard to deal with in the moment.

So ya… I related to this post a lot!
