I was asked to come up with a statement about why I write for my writing program. I’ve been asked, “Why do you write?” Or “Why do you write about what you do on your blog?” So this is kind of a two-part post. This is about why I write in general, and tomorrow I’ll post why I write about the topics that I post on my blog.

So why do I write?

I write because I enjoy the process and it provides a space for me to get away from the real world and chaos.

I donโ€™t want to write just for fun though. I want my writing to change lives. I want to inspire people, I want to motivate people, I want people to feel loved and recognized after reading my writing. When I read books or writing that is relatable for me, it makes me want to write books that are relatable for other people.ย

Writing is also helpful for me to get my thoughts out. Itโ€™s easier for me to write than to speak and that is what makes me feel heard. When it comes to depression, anxiety, loneliness, or sadness, I find that writing things out is better for me than talking out loud. My thoughts come out in the form of characters in my various WIPs, poems, and writing projects.

I donโ€™t write for fun necessarily, although I do have fun while writing. Itโ€™s a way to share the Gospel too. In some of my stories there are mentions of the Gospel, and examples of Jesus’ love. I don’t explicitly write Christian fiction–I always make it way cringier than it needs to be–but all of my various pieces of writing have elements of Christianity like themes of redemption, love, and finding peace.

So that is why I write.

Why do you write? I’d love to hear your answers in the comments below! And get ready for the second post tomorrow!

this is a quote that C.S Lewis said and I think it should be our goal for any creation that we make!!

โ€œA yearning for God,ย for beauty and truth, and the ultimate purpose we were created for.โ€

    have a good day!!๐Ÿ˜

Hi Willow. I enjoyed this post and found that we have a bit in common about why we write. Like you, I enjoy writing- the process of it, the creativity it requires, and also, the end result. I write a lot of pieces that I would read if they were written by someone else. But more importantly similar to you, I write with the purpose to glorify God with the talent He has given me and for my blog to be a tool that the Holy Spirit can change people- whether that is 1 reader or a million. You are doing great in your writing and encourage you to continue to invest in your talent and let God use you. God bless you.

Iโ€™m glad to hear that you enjoyed reading! Itโ€™s always neat finding other writers out thereโ€”especially ones who write for the glory of God.

Thank you very much for your kind words, they mean a lot! God bless, have a great rest of your day.
