You may have heard of Jesus fulfilling prophecies. Maybe you’ve wondered, “What prophecies? How many? And what are prophecies anyways?!”

Well, first let’s define the word and meaning of prophecy.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary says that prophecy is ‘a prediction of what is to come’ or ‘the function or vocation of a prophet, specifically the inspired declaration of divine will and purpose.’

According to the Bible Project, prophecy is ‘A prophecy is a message that God speaks to his people through a human prophet.’

I like that definition the best, so that is what we are going to use that for this post.

In the Bible, God used these dudes called prophets to tell people things that he (God) had to say. Often these were warnings, comforting, news, or prophecies in reference to Jesus.

There are seventeen books of prophecy in the Bible: the major prophets are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. The minor prophets are considered Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. (Don’t ask me what the difference is between major and minor prophets–I have no idea.)

But there are many prophets who didn’t have their own book, like Elijah and Elisha, Deborah, Nathan, and more.

Now, before we dive into the prophecies about Jesus, let me clarify: prophets are not fortune tellers. They are people who God directly spoke to–whether in a dream or in some other crazy way–and they relayed what God had said and told it to the people.

So let’s get into Jesus’s prophecies. How many prophecies did he fulfill?

This post is not directly about a specific prophecy or prophecies in general. This post is about God’s promises: he has kept his promises billions of times.

So the next time you doubt God’s promise, you can look back on the hundreds (one for every day, actually) of prophecies and promises about Jesus that he has fulfilled. And all of them were for you.
