Happy Saturday y’all! How has your week been?

Before I announce the two winners (yes, I had more than five poems submitted!), I’d first like to thank you! I loved reading all your poems and it was really amazing to see how you all interpret spring!

I was so happy when I had eleven different poems submitted–that’s the most I’ve had with my competitions here on the Faithful Wanderer! So great job everybody!!

Without further ado, are you ready to hear who the two winners are?!

The first winner wrote a very sweet poem that really touched me. They used beautiful imagery and you could tell that it was very thoughtfully written. I loved their thought process, the emotions, and the that longing you could feel in the poem.

Aaron wrote a poem titled Waiting, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)

Waiting

My dear, I wish you were here
To see this wonderous day
This beautiful mirror
Of God’s wonderful way

The flowers, the birds, the trees
Are all in bloom
The air is full of humming bees
I feel cooped up in my room

So outside I go, with you on my mind
Every day I wake, I find I love you all the more
The way you speak to us all is so kind
And when you walk out that door

Tossing your hair over your shoulder
In such a casual way
You don’t know how much I value that shining smile,
How often I ask our God “When? When can I hold her?”
Over my heart you hold sway
I hope you do not it revile

I want you to know
Exactly how much I love you
I have hidden it away from you, but sometimes I wonder if you really do know
I assure you, my heart is true. True as the greenery all around, true as a birdsong too

Though my aim be off
And my dreams— Well, perhaps they’re silly; and away they will waft
And burn up like old, wooden beams

But I hope they don’t
I’ll see you again next spring
Let my love for you fade? I won’t.
In any case His praises shall ring

And I will be here waiting for you
for you to come home
Free from all this, and you’ll be healing
I wonder as I walk among the flowers,
Are you waiting for me too?
I suppose I will find out when you come home among the flowers and the budding trees I will be sitting.

In the midst of sweet beauty and a cool wind, among which you belong
The new leaves, all sweet and soft and green
Among the trees, tall and strong
Perhaps then, then, into each other we can lean

But until then, I shall be here waiting
Waiting for you

Aaron, I loved this poem; I felt so many different emotions and had to reread it a couple times to process all the thoughts. (In a good way.) Congrats and fantastic job!

Now, the second winner wrote a very visually pleasing poem and it reminds me of memories I made at my aunt’s wedding a few years ago! I really wanted to jump into the world of this poem and it was beautifully written.

Esther Dawn!

Esther Dawn wrote a poem titled The Spring Wedding, and I hope you enjoy it. :)

I can feel it in the stirring
Of the wind in the trees.
I can hear it in the birdsong
And the buzzing of bees.
I can smell it in the green herbs
And the rich, living soil.
The spring wedding soon is coming,
And the bride’s gown is royal!

All the earth will come together
For the springtime wedding.
Budding life, like invitations,
Through the air is spreading.
All the plants and all the blossoms
Are the groom and the bride.
Butterflies officiate for
All the flowers side by side.

The reception is a gala.
It’s the grandest of all.
The musicians are the birds, dressed
In their best for the ball.
When the spring breeze blows, the world
Dances to their singing,
And it’s heedless of the time, for
Beyond time it’s winging.

Then the newlyweds head off on
Their summer honeymoon.
The springtime celebration seems
To finish all too soon.
The wedding decorations must
Come down from the eaves,
But we’re given party favors:
Trees with brand new green leaves!

Esther Dawn, this was so creative and I loved it all! I felt really happy the whole time I read it. Congrats and amazing job!

Great job to Aaron J. Lockard and Esther Dawn, you both are very talented and thank you for taking the time to submit your poems–I really enjoyed reading them.

And to the rest of you whose poems didn’t win–GREAT JOB!!! I had such a hard time choosing who won, and all of your poems were creative, visual, and very very spring like! It was the perfect way to jump into May, I think!
