We have a lot of phrases that we love to throw around:
‘Good vibes only.’
‘Only good days.’
‘No such thing as bad days.’
And sure, these things are nice on a t-shirt or sticker, but have we actually thought about what they mean?
If you think about the phrase ‘good vibes only,’ it’s literally implying that you will never have bad vibes. I don’t know about you, but the fact that someone will never have bad vibes…is kind of a bad vibe.
This phrase, ‘good vibes only,’ makes me kind of annoyed—it makes me feel like I can’t ever have bad vibes. (I don’t want bad vibes, but I certainly have them on some days!)
These kind of optimistic phrases scream, “LIFE IS GOING TO BE GOOD BECAUSE I DESPERATELY NEED IT TO BE GOOD.”
Y’all, do you want to know something?
It’s alright if life totally sucks some days. Why? Because that’s life.
I’m not here to be pessimistic, I love being happy and fun and having a good time! But when I wake up, anxious, annoyed, sad for literally zero reason, then I don’t want to hear the phrase ‘good vibes only.’ That’s not why I’m here, right?
So this phrase? It’s kind of a big fat lie. It’s a cover-up, like all that plastic surgery that people get to make themselves ‘beautiful’ when really it just looks cheap and tacky. It works for a long time, maybe even forever, but it’s not actually real. It’s not the genuine, personal you.
There’s nothing wrong with being optimistic–if anything, it’s great! But if you use it to patch up the hurt and problems of real life, it’s not going to work very well, I’m afraid.
In conclusion? What fake phrase do you need to remove from your life? And what true phrase are you going to replace it with instead?
Thanks for reading!
