A few months ago, I was in Trader Joe’s (which is a grocery store, in case you didn’t know). I was with my mom and two younger brothers and I typically walk around a little bit looking at their new products while my mom gets the stuff that’s actually on the list.
Well, I had gone back to my mom and was pushing my youngest brother in the shopping cart when this little old lady came up to me. I was on the snack isle—I remember it clearly.
She said, placing her very warm hand on mine which was on the cart, “I just wanted to say thank you for being so kind and smiley, and you just made my day. Earlier, I was walking, and this woman so rudely honked at me from her car as I crossed the street and it just ruined my day, so thank you for making me happy again.”
I kinda just stood there like, “What the heck is she talking about?”
But I just nodded and said, “Oh I’m so sorry about that! I hope you have a great day.” And then she left.
I was so confused about what was going on. I thought maybe she’d just seen me and my brothers being wacko in the store, or maybe I’d been laughing with my mom about something. I had never met her in my life. The only time I’d seen her was right then and there.
Well later in the car, after I’d told my mom this story, she was like, “Oh wait I think I know who that was!”
She then proceeded to tell me a story about this little old lady in Trader Joe’s who was unsure whether or not to ask an employee to try a product. (You can do that at Trader Joe’s, it’s pretty awesome.) My mom said, “I’ll stand here and ask them with you!” So they did just that, and an employee opened the product for them to try.
Well, that sweet little old lady thought that I was my mom. (In all honesty, I get that from people a lot. Except I’m a head taller than her.)
But it stuck out to me because all my mom did was stand and try a food with that lady, yet that somehow made her day.
So, your actions impact everybody! Thanks for reading. 🙃
