One of the ways that Jesus connected with the people around him was by sharing a meal. Now, he didn’t have a house to invite people to (he was a traveling carpenter for work), but often he shared a meal at other people’s homes.

Sharing a meal is something you can do with really anyone. Your family, a first date, a boss or coworker, a friend, a pastor, a mentor, anybody. Even…a stranger.

Have you ever had a meal with a stranger? I have, and in all honesty, it’s not so bad. And Jesus used this technique to get to know more people, especially the people that nobody wanted to get to know.

This included the sick people, prostitutes, tax collectors, adulterers, and even Pharisees and soldiers.

Now, one of the many awesome things we can learn from Jesus is that he was human. And because he was human, the dude needed to eat!

And so Jesus used his human ways to invite people to follow him.

It doesn’t take much to introduce people to Christ. (Easier said than done, am I right?) But you don’t have to drag them to church, or introduce them to your pastor, or tell them that Bible study is the best place ever. (Even though it pretty much is.) All it takes might be a cup of coffee or some ice cream.

You can even do this with people who are Christians. For example, opening your home to your small group or Bible study and having everyone over for dinner. That’s another way to bond and connect!

So don’t be afraid to use whatever resources you have when it comes to bringing the church–and people–together.
