Do you have anything with a cross on it? I have a couple things. For example, I have earrings, I have a notebook, and I have a Bible (that one is obvious).

My younger brother wears a black chain that has a cross on it, and a couple other friends have necklaces or chains with crosses.

I know people who have tattoos of a cross, or who have shirts or water bottle stickers, or maybe something that hangs from the rear view mirror in their car, all with crosses on them.

Crosses are cool, even though it used to be a symbol of death, but Christ turned it into a symbol of life, love, reconciliation, and freedom.

However, many people who wear this religious symbol do not believe in the religion they are wearing.

And this made me realize: just because you are wearing religion doesn’t mean you are living it.

A cross symbol on a chain, phone, or shirt isn’t going to get you to heaven.

We often think that wearing physical piece of our religion is a good way to show that we are Christians. I don’t blame this thought process. In fact, I’ve done it time and time again!

But I’ve also known too many people who have spoken out against Christianity all while wearing a cross on their chest.

Hm. That’s kind of backward.

So, here’s a thought: are you going to wear your religion or live it?

Because Christianity is not purely a religion. It is also a relationship. Now, some people argue, “No, it’s not religion, it’s a relationship!” While others say, “No, that’s disrespectful. It’s purely a religion.”

I personally don’t side with either. I think that Christianity is a religion that can be turned into a relationship. It is a relationship because Jesus has given us redemption and love and access to God, and it is a religion because it is the worship of a divine being: God.

While our relationship with God is a relationship, we should also take the time to realize that God is God. Like I said in this post, he still deserves to be feared. But we shouldn’t be afraid of him, because that would ruin the relationship.

So, in conclusion: we should not be wearing our religion if we are not going to have the relationship.

God wants a relationship with you. Are you going to help that relationship grow?
