‘He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” ‘
Matthew 13:31-32 NIV

Have you ever heard the parable of the mustard seed? Well now you have. That’s literally it, two verses. (It’s not the shortest one though! That would be the parable of the leaven also known as the parable of the yeast.)

If you’ve ever seen a mustard seed, you’d know that it is tiny! I was at youth group the other day and they were talking about this parable. All the students were given little bottles with corks on the top and they had a single mustard seed in them.

So it’s really small! Well, fun fact: that mustard seed, if planted, watered, and cared for, will grow into this:

It’s huge. And it might not look that big, but compare it to that single, tiny seed? It’s pretty incredible.

The reason Jesus talks about this in the Bible is because he is telling us, “Your faith, no matter how big or small, can do anything. If you have just a tiny bit of faith, it can still move mountains.”

Now, you might be like, “Bro, I don’t think moving mountains is possible…”

What Jesus is saying is that you can move emotional, relational, and spiritual mountains. Whether those mountains are a broken relationship, a hurting heart, change in your life, they are not immovable.

With your faith—no matter how small—you can learn how to overcome and move those mountains.

But moving mountains doesn’t mean pushing them to the side abandoning them. They might be stunting your growth in your faith, or even pulling you away from it. Moving your mountains can be a bit different depending on the mountain.

Sometimes it takes a few days, other times it takes a few years. But you’ve got this!
