I have a black mini schnauzer named Hazel. She’s…interesting. And honestly, she’s not the smartest tool in the shed.
She does this thing when I’m doing dishes after dinner that annoys the heck out of me. She’ll run in, and start licking all the dirty plates and silverware in the dishwasher. I nudge her with my foot (my brother says I kick her) and maybe shout “GO DOG!” And she runs out the kitchen.
But for soooome reason, she thinks that “GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!” means “Leave the kitchen for five seconds and then please come back in here, you cute little puppy-poo.”
So she comes back in. It’s a never-ending cycle and it’s so annoying.
This dog is constantly in the way and I’m already clumsy enough without her getting under my feet!
The other night I was walking up the stairs, it was dark, and I thought I saw her shape in front of me. Like I said, she’s black and so I couldn’t see her. Well, I step over her—really big step—and apparently step on her. I trip, and then she jumps out of the way. Because of my tripping and her moving, I step on her again. She screams—never want to hear that again—aaaand I whack my face on my bedroom doorframe. 😑
Can you tell how she’s such a pain in the butt?
Well, the next day, after my pride was slightly less wounded (because getting whacked in the face will do that to you), I realized that my dog is a lovely representation of me and other Christians.
You see, when Christians dedicate their life to Christ, they are making it known that they are going to leave the ways of their old life behind them. But sometimes it’s hard, even though they know they will get hurt by going back to that thing.
“As a dog eats its own vomit, so fools recycle silliness.” Proverbs 26:11 MSG
It’s the same way with my dog: she knows she’ll get stepped on and pushed out of the kitchen, but she goes back anyway. (This is also because she’s a little bit wacko.)
Jesus talks about how He is our Shepherd and He will lead us back on the right track. All we have to do is (1.) trust Him and (2.) pray for wisdom, guidance, and help.
And since I don’t wanna end on that boring “Work hard!” note, here’s a video about a sheep being stuck, getting unstuck, and then getting stuck again.😄💀
God still has grace. How amazing is that?!❤️
This was a pretty odd post but I hope you enjoyed it!
