A lot of Christians (and people in general) don’t believe in magic. I personally don’t believe in magic, but I believe that it is very real.
(No, I donβt mean magician magic. I am referring to very serious and dark magic.)
I recommend listening to this podcast about a young woman, Ashley Jones, who is actually in ex-witchβuntil she found Christ, became a Christian, and learned that the practices she did were actually very dark forces.
In the podcast, Ashley Jones talks about the witchcraft practices she did and why she did them. She finishes her testimony with sharing about how she became a Christian, and it is far from a coincidence.
I highly, highly recommend listening to it, it seriously opened my mind to the truth that magic is a very real force.
Now. Is magic good?
Well, if you are a Christian, then hopefully you know that magic is not a good thing, it is something from the devil, Satan himself, and it serves no good purpose.
Deuteronomy says this about magic: βLet no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.β
ββDeuteronomyβ¬ β18β¬:β10β¬-β11β¬ βNIVβ¬β¬
But, what is the difference between magic and miracles? Arenβt they the same?
Well, that is a great point. But the difference is not their intentions, or purpose, or what they are, but who they are done by.
Demons are lords of magic. God is Lord of miracles.
Everything God does is good, does good, and stays good.
Magic doesnβt do this. It might look good, but it isnβt good and it certainly does not stay good. It is all done for Satan, and everything done for him is the opposite of good because it is the opposite of God.
βEvery good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.β
ββJamesβ¬ β1β¬:β17β¬ βNIVβ¬β¬
Now, sometimes magic can be done for a good purpose. Ashley talks about that. She participated in dark forces for good reasons, but magic uses a mask (aka, good intentions) to cover up its true incentives.
However, those βgoodβ things that came from magic, their mask slowly dissolved and eventually reveals its true identity.
Magic is full of sin. It comes from Satan, and he uses it to make people belive that itβs a fun party trick.
But magicβs intentions, or rather, Satanβs intentions, are to harm and to destroy. His goal is to bring as many people down before God can get to them.
But Satan doesnβt succeed. Ashley is a living testimony of this: she encountered demons and evil spirits, but try as they might, they didnβt stop God from showing her what love and life really is.
But thereβs one more question: can we read about magic? Well, I have a post about Christians reading Harry Potter with more on the subject!
Nowβas for people who practice magic or believe it is good, that doesnβt mean they are bad! It is another sin, just like murder, adultery, and all the other sins! But that doesnβt automatically make the person bad.
I hope this was helpful! Have a great day, and Iβm praying for you guys!π€
