When my family and I were moving from Massachusetts to Washington state, we took a cross country road trip. We visited a bunch of states and cool places, including Yellowstone National Park!

Well, after a few different stops in previous states and places, I’d learned to carry money with you because (1.) I love buying souvenirs (especially waterbottle stickers) to remember trips and things like that.

So I had moola on me. Now, first of all, I am a girl. And second of all, it was really nice weather, but we were going horseback riding in Yellowstone so I had to wear pants. So I chose to wear my athletic leggings.

Now, if there is one thing true about girl’s athletic clothing, it’s this: their pockets suck.

In fact, I didn’t even have pockets in these dumb pants. It was a tiny little stupid slit in the waistband that was big enough for a single chapstick or (in this case) a couple dollar bills rolled up in a small tube-like-shape.

For some dumb reason I had over $50 on me. Why? I mean, the only store close to us was the Yellowstone gift shop, and I already had a Yellowstone sticker.

Now, I have been blessed with a very strong bladder. Like, reeeeeeeeally strong. (Too much information? Maybe, but it’s part of the story.) I was also blessed with (occasional) wisdom. At least, I’m blessed with wisdom when not involving over $50 and a toilet.

Now, like I said, we were going horseback riding and so I was smart and decided to use the bathroom before we got on horses to ride in basically the middle of nowhere. Even though my bladder is quite strong, I decided not to take any chances of needing to pee in the middle of nowhere.

So I’m in the bathroom and I forget about the $50 in my teeny tiny waistband pocket. Well guess what falls out of so-called pocket?

My $50.

Guess where it fell?

Into the toilet.

Now, this is a public restroom and I had already gone to the bathroom, so I’m obviously not going to get my money!

It was over fifty dollars.

I stood there, staring into the toilet. I was just silent. I didn’t know what the heck to do!

So what did I do, you ask?

I flushed. my. fifty. dollars.

Y’all, this moment is one that I shall never let myself live down.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “Why is this wacko telling us about her tiny pockets, toilet story, and fifty dollars?”

Well I’m so glad you asked.

You see, God’s love is like that $50+. It’s worth a lot. (At least it was for me, since I had no income and that’s actually a good bit of cash.)

And when I flushed my money?

That is us, walking away from God’s love. Giving up.

When we receive God’s love, it might seem fun and new and great for the first go-around. But later, after we get involved in not-so-smart things (like trusting girl pockets to hold money), it becomes kind of old and boring. Then it accidentally gets dropped, or forgotten. We look back at his love and say, “Hmm…….do I want to get it?” And then we flush the toilet. “Nah. It’s fine.”

Now there are obviously some big differences in this analogy:

  1. God and his love are worth a lot more than $50.
  2. We can’t get actually rid of God’s love.
  3. It’s not going to stay in those gross public bathroom pipes.

But here’s the point: even when we think we flush God’s love away because we don’t want it, he is actually still loving us and caring for us. And as for flushing away his love?

Well, fun fact for you: we are not powerful enough to change his love. Nothing is! And that’s a fact. 😉

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭38‬-‭39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I hope this was a funny and possibly interesting post! Thanks for reading.🙃
