A few months ago, in late August, I finished my drivers ed class and recently I’ve been working to get my 50 driving hours.
When I first started driving, I was terrified. And actually, my first time driving was in an empty Costco parking lot (I had no idea those lots could even get empty), for maybe one minute in a circle. Under five miles per hour.

Anyways. First time driving, not to fun. But now, it’s ten times less scary! And that’s because I’ve practiced.
Now, faith is kind of like driving. It feels like you don’t know what you’re doing, sometimes you’re going way too fast, other times you wish you could speed up but the speed limit stays the same for a long time, and sometimes you forget to put on your seatbelt. (That would be God, in case it wasn’t clear.)
You don’t need to start off super fast, take your time. God isn’t going to rush you or judge you for your speed! Once you get used to what you’re doing, bring up the speed a little bit!
But driving will always be an unpredictable thing. People do it their own way, some people are reckless, others are lazy, some just don’t care at all. And that the same thing happens with our faith–we don’t know what’s going to happen completely. Some people do it their own way, some are reckless, others are lazy, some just don’t care at all.
So what kind of driver do you want to be?
Now, sometimes, if it gets too overwhelming I have to let an adult take over and drive instead. Sometimes I just say, “I’m too tired.”
So they take over instead. They know what they’re doing, and God does too. He’s willing to take the wheel (sound familiar??) and drive you to your next destination. He’s gotchu. :)
