It’s funny because I’m very excited to get a tattoo. (Why is everybody so surprised when I say this?!) I have big plans for my eighteenth birthday.
(I actually have a list on my notes app on my phone of tattoo ideas. Some are just words, others are images, some are both images and words to form a complete idea.)
I was talking to my dad in December and I said, “Hey, we should get matching tattoos!”
To my surprise, he said he would! My dad has a full arm tattoo sleeve, one on his shoulder, and one on his arm that matches one of my mom’s tattoos. I wasn’t surprised that he’d get another tattoo, but a matching one with his daughter—that was kind of funny to me. Nevertheless I’m excited!
Of course, I’m not legally allowed to ‘mutilate my body’ since I’m sixteen, but give me two more years. Luckily, he and I have a lot of time to think about what we’re going to get. 😉
So I’ve been planning what we’re going to get. I’m not sure if our matching tattoos will be my first tattoo, because I have one that I really want to get first.
The tattoo that I really want to get (not matching with my dad) is along the lines of this:
A simple bouquet with three flowers: the August birth flower which is a poppy, the July birth flower which is a water lily, and one more birth flower but I’m not sure which month. (It would be the birth flower of Sparrow, my parents’ miscarriage a while after I was born.)
And then! Underneath this bouquet, I want the words “Revelation 21:4” which reads this: He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.
I want this tattoo on the inside of my arm so that I can see it often.
But as for a matching tattoo with my dad? Maybe we’ll do a phrase or symbol that is like an inside joke or memory. I still have a couple years to figure it out. :)
What would you get a tattoo of?
Thanks for reading!
