It isn’t an understatement to say that everything we consume, we become.

And it’s occurred to me that it is all too easy to begin consuming things that I don’t want to become.

It’s taken me a long time to realize just how much the things I consume affect me. As they say, you are what you eat! Whether we realize it or not, what we allow ourselves to indulge in will influence us either positively or negatively. The content we ingest denotes the type of life we live or want to live, whether we do it unconsciously or otherwise.

All of us, no matter who we are, are called to live. Of course, we are alive in the physical sense, but it is all too possible to be alive and breathing while being dead inside. And that’s what happens when we get too wrapped up in the things of this world. We lose sight of life as a gift and get lost in the monotony, becoming numb to true joy. To true life.

So, when I became aware of this, I began to ask myself – am I consuming things that bring me life, or things that drag me down? Am I living each day purposefully and intentionally? Are the things that I’m watching, reading, listening to, and talking about bringing life and hope to my story? Do they bring life to others?

The Bible tells us that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom, and that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6) Thus, if we consume things that bring us closer to Him, we are coming closer to life. We are coming closer to truly living and embracing life as a whole. We come closer to being whole. And even though it’s a constant battle, if you choose to pursue life, you’re bound to win the war.

So I encourage you, friend, to begin living. Truly living, by locating the things that bring you life and the things that don’t.

There’s so much life all around you, if you only choose to embrace it.
