We have a post by a friend of mine, Noah Dean Gonzales! Check out his blog, Writing for a Better Tomorrow, and enjoy this post!

Take a breath.

The very air you breathe is unseen, yet essential for your survival. Our very existence depends on this invisible force.

How is it then, that weโ€™ve become so materialistic? Weโ€™ve become wary of things we canโ€™t explain; avoiding the uncomfortable subjects that hint at something more.

But how is it weโ€™ve fallen prey to this train of thought? Donโ€™t we serve a supernatural God?

The fact of the matter is our world is filled with the supernatural.

In Ephesians 6:10-20, Paul speaks of a spiritual war. A war of good and evil. The faithful against the fallen. He instructs to put on the armor of God, implying that we will be active in this battle, not just bystanders. Why would we be called to action in this battle if this war is happening in, for lack of a better term, a different realm?

Our very universe was conceived by the supernatural (Genesis 1). We, human beings, were created from the dust of the earth and the breath of God.

I have recently been reminded of this fact by reading through the book of Job. In chapters 1:6-2:10 we see Satan, the Devil, wanting to test Godโ€™s servant Job. The verses I really found interesting in this passage were Job 1:6-7 and Job 2:2. Satan tells God heโ€™s been โ€œroaming through the earth and walking around on it.โ€ That statement reinforces the fact that Satan โ€œis prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour (1 Peter 5:8b).โ€ He is present on this earth, as are his armies of darkness.ย

Taking this idea, Iโ€™ve thought about some things in our current culture that get dismissed. One example is ghosts. Many, especially Christians, believe these to be nothing more than superstition. But actually we see the occurrence of a ghost in 1 Samuel 28. Thatโ€™s right, thereโ€™s a ghost in the Bible. Not to mention the Disciples reaction to Jesus walking on water in Matthew 14:26, clearly indicates the belief of ghosts among the Jews.

Now ghosts are just one example and Iโ€™m not saying all claims about ghosts are correct. Most of them arenโ€™t.

My point is that weโ€™ve slowly become blinded to the supernatural world around us, when the truth is: we are in a warzone. A warzone of the spiritual forces.

Now living in a warzone is frightening and unpredictable, never mind a spiritual one. However, as Christians we are called to fight with confidence and security. The battle has already been won. We are hidden in Christ, the victor (Colossians 3:3) and nothing can separate us from Him (Romans 8:35-39). No power overcomes the all-powerful God we serve. In order to fight this spiritual war, we must put full faith in Him and be grounded in His Word (2 Timothy 1:18-19). We must be aware of the supernatural world around us, but not afraid. In Christ, we must fight, the good fight.
