Happy Sunday everybody! This is a short post, but I really like the message.

There’s a verse in Jeremiah that says this: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so you are in my hand.” Jeremiah 18:6 NLT

A bit of background: Israel is in captivity, and the prophet Jeremiah is sending encouragement to the people of Israel. (You’ve probably heard the verse Jeremiah 29:11 that talks about a hope and a future. That’s what it’s about, a future out of captivity.)

Israel is kind of a hot mess, you know? And what do you do with messes? Well, if you’re like me, you either clean them up, or, you throw ’em away. But God isn’t going to throw the messy Israel away! Those are his children! So he’s going to be like a potter, and mold the messy clay into a piece of art.

Now, sometimes it seems like artists make odd, ugly paintings. (Or sculptures, in this case.) But it takes a wise mind to say, “That artist was talented. He made a beautiful painting/sculpture.”

Not everybody is going to notice its beauty. But there is still beauty. The viewer doesn’t change anything. It’s the artist who determines the beauty.

God is your artist. Not everybody is going to notice your inward or outward beauty, but there is still beauty.
