Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
Ok, so how did Valentine’s Day start? I don’t know the exact story because I’m a wee bit too lazy to research it.
But I do know another story about how Valentine’s Day began.
Love.
(Duh!) But seriously. Other than Saint Valentine (that’s the dude who supposedly inspired Valentine’s Day), we have one guy who loved someone so much that he created a world for them.
That guy’s name is Yahweh. Or Elohim. Or El Shaddai. Or Immanuel. Or Adonai. Or even just God.
And that person he loves? He loves…
Wanna take a guess?
…
YOU.
Whether you know God or not, whether you love him or not, whether you think you need God or not, he loves you. Because you’re his child.
“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
1 John 4:16 NIV
God is the ultimate definition of love. If it isn’t love it isn’t God, and if it isn’t God it isn’t love.
There is a true definition of love here in 1 Corinthians:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV
This, friends, this is God. Looking for a good definition of God and his character? 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 above is it.
Friends, even if you don’t have a Valentine to spend this day with, I pray and hope you know that God is crazy about you and loves you so much, even if you don’t know him.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
