In 2017 a woman gave birth to twins, two little boys. She and her husband already had a little girl and decided that two newborns would be too much for them to handle at that time.

When she gave birth to the twins, they were premature and one of them—they called him Baby Hernandez 2—had medical problems and needed a trach (breathing tube in the throat) and a G-tube (a feeding tube), and was in the hospital for the first year of his life.

So, the two Hernandez twins were adopted by a couple who had a son a few years older than the twins. They named Baby Hernandez 2 and his brother (I will not be providing the name of the brother for privacy), and Baby Hernandez 2 became Luke.

But Luke was also too much to care for with all his medical problems. So they put him up for adoption a few months after they adopted him.

A woman who was in the know about in the adoption process and had adopted a couple of girls saw that Baby Hernandez 2 needed to be adopted and told a family who had been trying to adopt for the past few years. They decided that this was the right choice and the parents flew out to Texas to learn how to care for the baby’s medical needs.

A couple weeks later, they fly with Luke to Virginia and that’s when I met my new younger brother, Thaddeus, who goes by his middle name, Huck.

Ok, so, random story. A cool one, but what does it have to do with faith?

Well, there are a bunch of lessons and teachings I could share, connecting to this story but I’ll save that for a future post. The main point of this post is this:

Like Huck was adopted into my family, we are adopted into God’s family. One of my favorite Bible verses says this:

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons (and daughters), God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Y’all, God took us into his family, removing us from our past life and family of sin and destruction. And as his children, we become heirs to the eternal kingdom of heaven. How amazing is that?

Romans 8 (amazing chapter, by the way) says this, similar to that verse from Galatians: “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.”

How awesome is it that the God of the universe invites us to be a part of his family, to take our spot in his kingdom, and to be able to call on him whenever we want? That’s an amazing Father right there.
