In Hebrews chapter 12, the author writes this:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬) [Bolded sentences are mine.]

This verse is written by nobody knows who, but it’s a very inspiring thought. He’s telling Christians, “Life is a race, and you each have your own race track. But you all have one finish line, one goal, one destination: Jesus Christ. He will be the object you set your gaze on, to persevere and push on.”

Ask yourself this: What would it look like for Jesus to be my finish line?

Then read this: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Paul (who wrote 1 and 2 Timothy) is saying, “My race is completed, I have reached my goal: Jesus Christ.”

How amazing is that? Finishing the race doesnt just mean dying and going to heaven. You can finish that race here, on earth!

So how do we finish the race on earth?

I’m glad you asked.

1. SHARE. Our job, as told by Jesus, as Christians is to share his news with those who haven’t heard it. (Matthew 4:18-19)
2. LOVE. Our job is to share, but our life is to love. Jesus said the two most important commandments are to love the Lord your God and to love your neighbor as yourself. Loving and sharing come hand-in-hand. (Matthew 22:34-40)
3. GIVE. Our privilege is to give back to the One who have us everything. Give him your praise, your time, your attention, your fruits, your effort, your life. You can do this in so many ways! And, giving to God’s children (everyone) is another way to give to God. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7, Matthew 25:31-46)

And, finishing the race doesn’t mean winning the race. This isn’t a race anyone can win. It’s a race where, if someone trips, you help them up and finish together. That’s how Jesus made the race to be.
