About three years ago, I was making chocolate chip cookies. I accidentally dropped a chocolate chip cookie and bent down to get it. I wasn’t going to put it in the cookies so I was like, “Hey, five second rule, it’s all good.”

Well, when I put it in my mouth and chewed, I realized…it wasn’t a chocolate chip. It was the same color, same size, but it didn’t have the same texture or the little curl on top that chocolate chips have.

It was crunchy. And dry. And not at all sweet.

It was a dog kibble.

I put a piece of dog food in my mouth.

I immediately spit it out and rinsed my mouth a dozen times before finding the real chocolate chip (which I did not eat, for your information) to throw it away so my dog wouldn’t eat it (because dogs don’t handle chocolate well.).

Anywho. Why do I bring up this kinda gross and super random story? Well, it reminded me about how Satan used lies against Eve to make a forbidden fruit seem tasty and appealing. But after it had been eaten, the fruit revealed its truthful self.

Like I had been so attracted to eating a teeny tiny chocolate chip, when there were some in a big bag, Eve was unsatisfied with the ginormous, fruitful garden and was instead attracted to eating one single fruit.

Many things in this world are disguised by lies and filters to make them seem appealing. For instance, social media. Everyone has it, so it must be good, right? Well, no. It uses lies about becoming popular, being liked, making friends, being happy, and hides the fact that more often than not, it makes people become depressed, anxious, lonely, and confused.

Or take music. A lot of it has some really horrible stuff in lyrics, talking about cussing, inappropriate sex, addiction, money, and all sorts of things the Bible says we shouldn’t idolize or do. But everyone likes it! So we have to like it too, instead of filling our brains with wholesome and good things.

So yep. Watch out for those lies, and compare what you want to what the Bible says. Is it wise? Wholesome? Good? Or is it evil? Inappropriate? Unkind?

Romans 12 says this:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
‭‭(Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

The world we live in, and Satan, is putting us to a test, but using God’s word and with His help, we can pass that test.
