Hey y’all! In April, I’m going on a mission trip with my church to Swannanoa, North Carolina. (My autocorrect thing keeps saying “Swannanoa” is spelled wrong but I keep copy-and-pasting it from like, four different sources…)
Anywho. I’ll be posting updates on how our fundraising, planning, and other stuff is going, as well as a couple posts after the trip to explain how it went!
So what is this mission trip for?
Well, if for some reason you didn’t hear, Hurricane Helene did some terrible damage and flooding in Swannanoa. Swannanoa is a small town in North Carolina, just north of Asheville which is a much bigger city, therefore receiving more help and attention. A handful of residents of Swannanoa have said that they feel forgotten and as if no one cares, due to “more important” things like the presidential campaign. So that’s why our group is going across the country to help them out.
According to the organization that my church is partnering with for this trip, under 20 lives were lost and many more were injured. Houses were flooded, and although the water had gone down a bit, there is still a lot of water in basements which will be freezing due to the winter weather.
So what will our team be doing?
Well, we have twenty-seven people in total, with twenty-two teenagers and five different leaders, so we’ll be spread out doing various jobs such as these:
- Prayer walks
- Handing out food
- Demolition
- Construction
- Cleanup
- Talking and praying with elderly in retirement communities
And likely more! We’ll be there for whatever they need us to do.
In the three months between now and April, our team will be writing letters to friends, family, and members of the church asking for donations and prayer.
Which leads me to a very important question:
Would you be willing to pray for us?
I would love and really appreciate it if y’all prayed for our team as we work towards April, pray for our team as we work in April, and pray for the people we will be helping. They’ve lost many things, including friends and family, homes, jobs, and their community.
Thank you so much, and God bless.
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
