I’ve met a lot of people (and I’ve been one of those people many times) who can’t find themselves motivated to write. So I thought I’d share some writing tips and tricks that I’ve found really helpful.
- Take 30 mins every day to write. I started this because that’s what my writing program recommended, and I find it super helpful! It’s enough to write a chapter, or a few sentences, or a handful of chapters. (And sometimes I’ll keep going if I’m on a roll!)
- Write a certain number of words a day. If you’re similar to me, often when I write it’s hard to actually write. So I’ll sit there for 30 minutes, staring at my screen, and then jump out of my seat and say, “Welp. 30 minutes. I’m done!” But that’s not writing…So having a word count you have to meet every day helps too! It could be 50 words (which is maybe a paragraph) or 1,000 words! Keep it simple, and you can always change your word goal.
- Find a writing prompt. Sometimes my WIPs are just…not interesting at the moment and I don’t want to write them. That’s when the two tips above are not helpful. So, I go onto Pinterest and find a writing prompt. And I’ve found some prompts are really helpful! (A bunch of the snippets I’ve written I’ve shared on here.) You can find snippets using Pinterest (which is what I mainly use) or just Google some! I’ve even used conversations that I’ve overheard as writing prompts!
- Find your place and time. When do you write best and where do you write best? I personally write best in the evening, and not in a specific place. But if I’m writing during the day, I write on the couch. The place and time you write best can actually really influence your writing!
- Read like a writer. Read books or posts or articles or watch videos like a writer! Find resources to improve your writing and your content!
So yep. That’s all I got at the moment. I hope this helped! Thanks for reading. :)
