- Jesus wept. We all know that. It’s the shortest verse in the Bible! (John 11:35) But it doesn’t say that he ‘cried’. He wept. For me, the word ‘wept’ means it’s from the heart. Anybody can cry. But some people never weep. You might weep if your friend died. (That’s why Jesus wept.) But you probably wouldn’t weep if you got a bad grade on that essay for Spanish.
So when Jesus wept, he cried from the heart. He was truly hurting which is a beautiful image. Our Savior cried because he was hurting. Jesus was no stranger to pain. In fact, he knew it very very well. (Isaiah 53) - Jesus prayed for us. (John 17:6-26) It’s a beautiful prayer. He first prayed for his disciples, and then for all believers. I love it because he prays that we would all be one. He says that he loves us and is praying for us while he is gone. Whenever you need comfort or proof of God’s love, read this. (Or read all the New Testament! It’s really amazing, especially Paul’s letters!)
- Jesus could have dropped the cross. But he didn’t. He could have said, “Nope. I’m sick of helping and healing all of you. You don’t deserve me. I shouldn’t have to die and be tortured for you sinners. I quit. I hate you all. Don’t call out for help from me.” But he didn’t! He was nailed to the cross and loved us even still, even when being killed. How insanely awesome is that? (Luke 23:33-49)
- Jesus was the Bread of Life. After Jesus was born, he was placed in an animal trough because there was no crib or bed for him. A trough is something used to feed animals. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Weird connection, isn’t it?
- Jesus had a prostitute as an ancestor. (Matthew 1:5, 16) You’ve probably heard the story of Rahab, the harlot, who helped hide two spies in her home. (Joshua 2) This is so cool because it shows that God can and will use anyone for his will! The king of the WORLD had a prostitute in his family.
I hope you enjoyed these random facts about Jesus. Some I heard in messages from pastors, others were some I realized/discovered myself. It’s really awesome and cool what God reveals to us!
