Wake up, feeling a burst of
EXCITEMENT.
Realizing:
Something’s
different.
Look out window,
see a blanket
of white fluffy snow on the ground.
Run downstairs and
skip eating.
Pull on snow clothes,
can’t stand waiting.
Open front door, see the flurries
hear the sound of parents
shoveling.
Walk outside,
snow in hair.
Weather’s perfect,
snow in air.
Run to front yard
And then right there
You see some magic
Everywhere.
Children yelling,
but thanks to snow,
sound is muffled.
Perfect feeling,
nostalgia makes me
overwhelmed.
Walk to hill
in neighborhood,
kneel on snow
pull off my hood.
Sit in silence, listen loudly.
Hear the snow,
wonder why we
never realize how
snowy memories make a childhood.
I hope this wasn’t too clunky/messy of a poem! I did my best, lol.
So, two years ago, I used to live in Boston, MA. And the best winter memories I have were created there. When I’d wake up, me and my brother would skip breakfast and run outside to help my dad shovel the driveway. All the neighbors would be out, shoveling their driveways, and it was such a communal thing! Neighbors, when finished with their driveways, would walk over and help out with other neighbors driveways.
The coolest part was this: When you walk outside, even if everyone was yelling and talking and being loud, it was still quiet. Sounds were muffled and it had a slightly eerie essence, but it was really magical and cool!
There was a hill a few houses down from my house, and it was often used for sledding. Once, I walked over there and just sat down in the snow (which was about half a foot deep) and listened. And it was pure magic. Since it was muffled, the area was so quiet and you could hear the snow falling and landing on the ground and trees.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed! :)
