Random poem I wrote a few weeks ago after I saw a writing prompt that said, “Sometimes memories are the worst form of torture.”
I received feedback on this poem saying it was really sad and that memories can be a good thing. Which, thank y’all for the feedback. I’m always loving hearing feedback.
But, I wanted to clarify, I saw a prompt that prompted me to write this and also, some memories are really good in the sense that they make you sad. Just a thought to have while ya read this, and I’d love feedback on it! So feel free to comment!
Sometimes
there’s no other
torture
worse than your
memories.
It only takes a
moment
for them to
K N O C K
you out.
Flashing into your mind.
Suddenly you hear
Child’s laughter.
Friends’ chatter.
Feel love from Mother.
Missing the nostalgic
naivety of
youth is going to be the
death
of your sanity
one day.
When you get to
bed, it keeps you up.
The shivers of reality
crawl along your skin.
You’re not a kid
anymore.
You’re a teenager.
Dating,
college,
work,
school,
family,
friends,
future.
All of it haunts you.
And they say that it’s
fun
to relive memories.
But sometimes
That’s a lie.
