Heads up: There is a lesson in this, I promise. Just read through the whole thing…
So, fun fact, I recently was gifted a CGM patch-thingy-mabobber. But really, I had to get a Continuous Glucose Monitoring patch/monitor. Something about me getting dizzy and my blood sugar possibly being low. But that’s not important.
My point with all of this was that I had to take it off yesterday. It had been 10 days and I needed to remove it. It’s about the size of a watch-face, so it’s small, and it has sticky stuff all around it to keep it latched onto my skin. Well, to read my blood and get the info, it has a needle in my arm.
When they put the CGM patch on my arm, I didn’t see the needle because I really hate seeing stuff poked in me. So I had no clue how big it was.
Weeeeeell, when I removed it, I was terrified that the needle was gonna be huge and it would bleed and hurt a lot when I took it out. So I was removing all the sticky around the edges, and it hurt a good bit ’cause it was peeling off super slowly and pulling out the teeny tiny fine hairs on my arm. Well, my mind immediately put needle and pain together and went, “IT’S THE NEEDLE IN YOUR ARM STABBING YOU!!!”
Finally, (after a few minutes of hyperventilating and ranting about how I never wanted to do this again) I pulled it off my arm. And the needle was HUGE. Kidding, kidding. It was literally miniscule. It was basically a piece of wire, and it bent when I touched it with my finger. It was so small! (When they put it in my arm, it didn’t even hurt, so I don’t know why I was so dramatic…)
Anywho. Where am I getting with this?
The part that hurt worst was the sticky tape holding on to me. Not the needle. And my mind was like, “Oh. The worst pain came from holding on.”
When you hold on to something that is long gone, you’re only hurting yourself more. You might think that removing your needle (whatever you’re holding on to) will be painful, but when you hold on, you’re only making the already-bad relationship with that thing worse.
I hope this was interesting and made a bit of sense!
