It’s almost Thanksgiving, so this hopefully is kinda relatable!

So all of you lovely ladies and gents know that I’m a teenage gal. (Is that not obvious?) And sometimes, as a teenager, it’s hard to find things to enjoy in life…

We forget how to be grateful. And that doesn’t help our faith or trust or relationship with God!

Soooo I was doing my devotional one morning. And it said, “Just sit in silence and start thanking God for things in your life.”

“I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Psalms 69:30 (NIV)

So that night, (when I had uninterrupted time by myself) I lay in bed, with the lights off, looking at the ceiling and started thanking God for things in my life.

At first, I was like, “broooo this is BORING. I know what i’m thankful for.”

But then, I kept thanking God, and, after an hour, had probably listed over 100 things. And I wasn’t even close to finishing! (It was late, I was tired and might have started falling asleep…)

I started thanking God for the regular things. Safe house, loving family, lots of food, great friends, great church, all the works.

But as I continued, I found it easier to thank Him, easier to think of things to thank Him for, and I started thanking God for random—but amazing—things like these:

~The color blue.

~A memory when I got ice cream for Christmas from a friend.

~Chicken nuggets. (Because why would you not be grateful for them??)

~Trees.

~Ruta Sepetys (she’s an author)

~Jellyfish.

~Blankets.

~That one relatable song that played when I was having a hard time. (There’s so many good songs out there!)

~Cool pants.

~A funny experience from when I was in Hawaii (even tho it was totally humiliating).

~My writing teacher from 7 and 8 grade.

~Walden Pond (a pond in Massachusetts that was gorgeous!)

~Fuzzy socks and Birkenstocks (duuuude that rhymed!)

~Hugs.

~Hospitals.

~Creativity!

~Oversized hoodies.

~The rapper NF.

And more!!! XD

Anywho. It was so eye-opening and enjoyable! I had a great talk with God, eventually cried (happy tears) because I was so grateful and didn’t realize how blessed I was, and it was a totally different experience.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

So. I highly recommend doing this! Start with maybe 30 mins and just keep thanking! :)

Thanks for reading!
