Hey y’all! I was recently talking to my friend about having friends of the opposite gender and thought it might make an interesting blog post. So here we go!

(By the way, there’s a HUH-YOUGE (huge) difference between a girl friend and a gal pal. Gal pal is the equivalent of a girl best friend but tons more fun to say. Girl-space-friend is a friend who’s a girl but you’re actually a bit more than “just friends.”)

So I’m a girl. (Duh.) And I have friends who are dudes. And let me just say, it’s awesome. Like, no offense to my besties who are gals, but girls are SO. DRAMATIC. Like, every single thing has to be dramatized. (And for those of you who are reading this, I’m sure you can tell that I’m dramatic. So I say this about girls with love.) But dudes, they’re so chill! (Most of them anyways. I have had friends who are dudes and woah! they can get dramatic. Like, bro, take a chill pill.)

Second, having a friend of the opposite gender gives you great insight that you will not get from your bestie who’s the same gender as you.

But in high school, guy besties and gal pals can get complicated.

Obviously, you wanna stay friends. Cuz, ya know, friends don’t wanna be not friends. Because the relationship will change when someone starts dating another person, it’s not easy to continue the bestie friendship while your bestie is dating someone. And not only that, but it’s not fair for the person they are dating. (It’s hilarious to think that I’m writing about dating when I’ve never so much as held hands with a dude romantically…)

Anywho.

If you’re a dude, your gal pal is gonna teach you a LOT of stuff you’re gonna need in life. Like how to treat a girl right before your first date, how to dress well, how to understand the gal lingo and how to NEVER interrupt girl talk. Never. As in NEH-VER.

If you’re a gal, your guy bestie is gonna teach you a lot of stuff too! Like how to go on a date with a guy who’s actually so annoying, how to understand the dude lingo (it’s almost as complicated as gal lingo) and how to understand football plays. (In full honesty, you’re probably never gonna need to know that last one…I still don’t know it and I’m completely fine with that!)

But your guy bestie is also (hopefully!) going to do ridiculous stuff with you, like making dumb music videos, and sing karaoke, and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Anywho. This post was honestly all over the place but that’s okay because at the moment I’m all over the place….anyways. Keep your guy besties and your gal pals because someday you’re gonna need them.

This is a great post! (And by the way, my brothers/dad were the ones who taught me how to understand football plays 😉)

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it! (Aw, that’s great! I’m glad they were able to help ya out, because my brother and dad only make it more confusing for me… :) )
