Trying something new! A writing prompt. But, it’s the verse of a song. So here we go, I guess.
Song: Call Your Mom by Noah Kahan, verse one.
CALL YOUR MOM
When you tell me, I almost want to die myself. I don’t understand. I beg with you, pleading. But you insist. You said you have no hope. No future. No worth.
But you’re worth everything to me.
You’re spiraling, tunnel vision. Your brain is foggy, not thinking straight. Your heart is heavy, your soul in pieces.
We have plans. Don’t leave me to do them by myself. Remember our trip? What about our birthdays? Or Christmas? Don’t leave me. Please. Don’t leave me.
I know you’re hurt. I am too. But this? It won’t solve your problems. I thought that life meant more to you. It’s not something you can just throw away like that.
You tell me, it’s simple, but it’s so complicated.
A car drive has never felt so long before. I’m terrified that when I get there, you won’t be breathing. I’m terrified that you won’t let me get the chance to tell you that I love you.
You mean the whole world to me. Everything in this world? It’s nothing if you aren’t in it too. You don’t know that. I’ve never told you. I don’t know if I ever would have. Until you told me your secret.
This hurts. I want your pain to be over, the misery to stop. But how can I let you leave like this? There’s no solution to the world of hurt. You don’t know what this is doing to me. Should I tell someone? But I can’t bear the thought of hanging up on you. No. I’m staying on the line with you. I’m not hanging up. I’ll stay with you the entire night.
If I could, I’d take all your pain and bring it on myself. I swear, I would. Did you know that? Do you know the things I’d do for you?
If I could, I’d make everything better in an instant. There’s nothing that could stop me. But I can’t. It feels like the only thing I can do now, is sit here, waiting for you to tell me…’Okay. I won’t do it.’
This wait is an unanswered prayer, an evil torture, a suffocating cage. There’s no relief.
Please don’t go.
