Writing Prompts


I always love finding random prompts on Pinterest, but also enjoy coming up with my own! So here’s a list of fictional writing prompts If you end up using one, feel free to contact me with your writing so I can see what you came up with! I love hearing from fellow writers.

Romance:
~”A: Be gentle on him. He’s got a lot of emotions going on right now.
B: How do you know?
A. Because that’s what happens when you fall in love.”
~”Most people find me intimidating, but she/he just found me endearing.”

Historical:
~”The carriage clattered along the cobblestones as you rode to England to meet your father’s assassin.”
~”In 1805, there’s no creepier sound than the sound of the Irish nuns praying every morning in the chapel. But it’s the perfect sound to hide the fact that someone is escaping the convent.”

Contemporary:
~”Traveling to Italy for the summer was the best decision I’d ever made. Until I realized that my ex was staying in the same Bed and Breakfast as I was.”
~”During the winter, I lied about the skiing trip I supposedly went on every year. They couldn’t know that I was really visiting my sister.”

Spiritual:
~”Hearing from an angel does weird things to you. You start to see hope in the hopeless, start to hear worship in the wind, start to feel love in the lonely.”
~”God never told me how I was going to change lives, but he told me that I would. And he used a boy named Oliver to help me see that.”

Horror:
~”When you lay in the dark every night, you start to see faces in the walls that weren’t there before. And they move.”
~”Screams pierced the night air as she walked through the neighborhood, gunshots ringing in her ears.”

Sci-fi:
~”My mother will never ask you what you want to drink, or how your family is. That’s the nice part about her ability to read minds. The worst part? Well…she knows all my secrets.”
~”Every day at 11:00, the Cuffs on their wrists beeped, alerting them it was time to clean up the blood in the mess hall.”

Random weird ones:
~”The aliens never told him how he was to kill the president, just that he needed to use a butter knife and a kitten.”
~”A: Why are you grunting and squinting like that?
B: I’m channeling my inner Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson.
A. To crack an egg?
B. Hey, it’s hard work making a love potion.”
~”Every week, I laid flowers on my brother’s grave. The Watchers observed me every visit, taking notes of my every move. Little did they know, my brother wasn’t dead.”

Single Lines:
